Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 has reported that flights to Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires carried 8.9% less passengers in July than in the same month last year.

The report follows the recent announcement by the INDEC statistics bureau of a 13.5% drop in foreign tourism to Argentina in the first semester of the year compared to the same period of 2012.

In total, Ezeiza airport welcomed 688,397 passengers last month, while the Metropolitan Airport, Jorge Newberry Domestic airport registered an increase of 14.5% with 858.305 travellers.

The increase in passengers taking domestic flights has in part been due to low prices that are often competitive with the long-haul bus sector.
